His Royal Highness Prince Vladimir (son of Prince Andrej Karageorgevich) flies to Belgrade May 15, 2013.
Having been able to get hold of a ticket at the very last moment, Prince Vladimir has flown out to Belgrade this morning in the hope of arriving at the Nikola Tesla Airport in time to meet his late father’s coffin. The rush of this trip was due to the very unfortunate fact that Prince Vladimir had not been told of the exhumation and return of his late father’s remains until yesterday morning when a friend from Australia asked the Prince what was happening.
Prince Vladimir was the only child of [Prince] Andrej who was with him only hours before Prince Vladimir’s father passed away. Prince Andrej and Princess Kira-Melita were divorced in 1973 and from this time until his visit to America in 1990, Prince Vladimir had only seen his father for one afternoon in 1982. From the 5th of May to the 7th of May 1990, father and son spent the majority of the time talking about the history of Yugoslavia and the Karadjordjevic family. Together with his siblings, Prince Vladimir buried his father at [New Gracanica Monastery in Illinois].
Prince Vladimir has always believed that Oplenac is the only final resting place for his late father but claims that now is not the time, whilst the people of Serbia are still having to endure so much suffering on all levels. “What has been done, has been done but I know that this was not the wish of my late father and I am very hurt and sorry for that,” said Prince Vladimir.
