Crown Prince lays wreaths on Memorial Plates to Medical missions in Balkan Wars and the First World War

Belgrade, 24 September 2015 – His Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander attended the unveiling of memorial plates at Serbian Medical Association to Medical missions and individuals in the Balkan Wars 1912 – 1913 and the First World War 1914 – 1918 who assisted the Serbian Army medical corps. After the ceremony, Crown Prince laid laurel wreaths. The ceremony was attended by many members of diplomatic corps in Serbia.

Serbia entered the liberation Balkan wars with 370 medical doctors, both army and civilian, and without any other medical staff. This number was not sufficient even for peace time. Therefore the Serbian Army needed help from doctors, nurses, and medical supplies. Many foreign medical missions and individuals responded to the appeal for help, so the Serbian Medical Corps during the Balkan Wars fulfilled its mission. Nevertheless, only one year after that, Serbia entered the Great War with only 400 civilian and medical doctors, without any nurses and with a huge deficit of medical supplies. Many medical corps and individuals from friendly countries answered the appeal of Serbia. Their help was especially important in terminating three epidemics of typhoid fever that affected the Serbian Army and civilians in 1915, a hundred years ago, that took toll of 135.000 lives.

In memory and gratitude to all those medical missions and individuals, the Serbian Medical Association unveiled two Memorial Plates in their building in George Washington Street 19 in Belgrade.

Crown Princess Katherine delivers donations to Clinical Centre Serbia Gynaecology and Obstetrics

Belgrade, 24 September 2015 – Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Katherine visited the Clinical Centre of Serbia’s (CCS) Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinic (GOC) in Belgrade today and donated two General Electric ultra sound machines worth 64,000 Euros and one colposcopy monitor worth 7,000 Euros, to Professor Dr. Aleksandar Stefanovic the general manager of this health institution. This donation was made possible through a grant received by the Foundation of HRH Crown Princess Katherine from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation of America.

The friends of Their Royal Highnesses, the Foundation Stavros S. NIARCHOS has helped the Crown Princess Katherine Foundation through their health grants over the years. Through one such grant they supported the purchase of a mobile digital mammography unit for the Clinical Centre in Nis, which examined over 100,000 women during 7 years. They also donated an ultrasound machine and a workstation for the mobile mammography unit. The value of that donation was over $800,000.

Crown Princess Katherine has been helping the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinic in Visegradska Street for years, through her humanitarian foundation. This July she visited the GOC and delivered much needed air conditioners. In addition, Her Royal Highness donated two transport beds with mattresses, blankets, pillows, towels, linens, personal hygiene items, diapers and wipes. All this was ensured thanks to the dedicated work of Lifeline Chicago Humanitarian Organization, whose patron is Crown Princess Katherine.

This May, Her Royal Highness donated an ultrasound machine with three probes for breast examination, biopsy and gynaecological examination, worth 30,000 euros, to this health care institution. HRH Crown Princess Katherine will continue to help the Clinical Centre of Serbia’s Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinic.

Belgrade, 3 October 2015 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine, together with Mr David Andrews, son of the Royal couple, attended a football match between FC King Peter I and FC Hajduk today in Topola.

After that, they visited Aleskandrovic Winery, one of the most successful in Serbia.

Crown Prince and Crown Princess attend Consecration of the Monastery Church in Mislodjin

Belgrade, 4 October 2015 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine attended the Holy Liturgy and Consecration of the new Holy Martyr Christopher Monastery Church in Mislodjin. The Holy Liturgy and Consecration were officiated by His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia with clergy of Belgrade Karlovac Diocese. Ceremony was also attended by Dr MIleta Radojevic, Chief of Directorate for cooperation with churches and religious communities, Mr Dejan Tomasevic, vice president of Basketball Association of Serbia and president of “Saint Serbia” association and Mr Miroslav Cuckovic, president of Obrenovac municipality.
The Monastery Church was built on the conserved foundations of an old church which had been built, according to a tradition, during the reign of Serbian King Dragutin. According to archeological research, the founding of this sacred place has been located into the 15th century and the time of Despot Stefan Lazarevic. It was in the mid-16th century that Ottoman invaders plundered and burnt down this holy shrine, slaying monastery brotherhood. While digging the foundations for the new church, preserved bones of murdered monks were found, and they will be placed in a reliquary in the crypt of the new monastery church. His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia has consecrated foundation of the new church on March 19, 2014, and already today, only 19 months later, the Monastery church has been consecrated, thanks to mother Justina, the head of the monastery and her diligent work. She came here 4 years ago from the Serbian monastery in Canada to restore this holy building on a hill over the Kolubara River, near Obrenovac. She was collecting all the necessary building permits for more than three and a half years, while the church, with help of donors, was built in just four months.

Crown Prince Alexander pays tribute to 1915 defenders of Belgrade

Belgrade, 6 October 2015 – Organized by the Kingdom of Serbia Association Belgrade City Board and the First Belgrade High School. The 1915 defenders of Belgrade were honored today, at the monument dedicated to those heroes at the Danube quay in Dorcol.

The ceremony was attended by HRH Crown Prince Alexander, the grandson of the Supreme Commander of the Serbian army in the Great War and HRH Crown Princess Katherine, accompanied by the members of the Crown Council, Professor Dragoljub Kavran, Mr. Vladan Zivulovic, Mr Miki Savicevic and Mr. Darko Spasic, as well as by the author of the monument Nikola Kolja Milunovic.

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander laid a laurel wreath at the monument to the heroes who gave their lives in 1915 in the defense of Belgrade, and then addressed the audience:

“It is a great honour to address you today, a hundred years after the heroic defence of Belgrade in the Great war. At this place, our ancestors showed the whole world how to love and defend freedom. Our army and civilians stood up in defence of our capital and our country. The days between the fifth and tenth October 1915 were filled with examples of great heroism. Under the supreme command of my grandfather, King Alexander, our soldiers boldly rushed to certain death, not sparing their lives. One such charge was led by the famous major Gavrilovic whose words will always resound in our hearts and in our historical memory. Such examples of heroism show the path into the future. I am very glad that the students of the First Belgrade High School participated in marking the centenary of the defence of Belgrade in the Great War. With young generations who know and respect their history we will surely have a successful future. I am sure that the future generations will be proud of our ancestors, just as we are proud of them today” – emphasised Crown Prince Alexander.

Beside His Royal Highness, wreaths were laid by representative of the Russian Ambassador, Principal of the school, representatives of Kingdom of Serbia Association, and speeches were delivered by Mr. Alexander Andrejic, principal of the First Belgrade High School and Mr. Milos Pavkovic, president of the Belgrade City Board of the Kingdom of Serbia Association, whose patron is HRH Crown Prince Alexander.

The ceremony began with the sounds of the national anthem “God of Justice” in the interpretation of the choir “King Peter I”, and continued with a drama program performed by the students of the First Belgrade High School. The ceremonial part of the program was completed by performing a composition “There Far Away”.

Their Royal Highnesses Hereditary Prince Peter and Prince Alexander attended the world premiere of Italian brand Trussardi’s autumn / winter collections at the White Palace tonight. The hosts of the event were Ms Gaia Trussardi, the owner of the brand, HE Mr Giuseppe Manzo, Italian Ambassador to Serbia and Sportina Group with their premium fashion store XYZ.

Among the many guests in the audience were many Belgrade’s public and cultural life personas, including HE Ms Maja Gojkovic, the speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, HE Mr Rasim Ljajic, Minister of Trade, Tourism and Communications in the Government of Serbia, as well as many representatives of the diplomatic corps in Serbia.

Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine visit Hamilton, Ontario Canada

On the second day of Their Royal Highnesses visit to Canada the Saint Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Hamilton, Ontario held the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy officiated by His Grace Bishop Longin of New Gracanica and Midwestern America.

The service was glorious and the choir was enchanting. Most touching were the 60 Sunday school students ranging in ages from two to sixteen who towards the end of the service were brought up to receive communion and blessings from His Grace.

Following the service the Kolo Srpskih Sestara headed by Mrs. Milka Culic prepared a wonderful luncheon for 400 guests. The President of the church Mr. Rajko Djurdjevic welcomed the Royal Couple and was instrumental in organizing the spectacular afternoon. Following the luncheon an amazing program was prepared by folklore director Mr. George Lukic with three various groups performing. Inspiring speeches by His Grace Bishop Longin, Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine and newly elected Member of Parliament Mr. Bob Bratina, were included in the program.

St. Nicholas’s Serbian Orthodox church is home to the oldest Serbian parish in Eastern Canada and was founded in 1913. The last Royal visit to the church and community was in 1959 when the late His Majesty King Peter the II visited.

The church congregation has been very generous and last year donated $ 70,000 to Lifeline Canada in order to aid the flood victims, in both Serbia and Republica Srpska.

Crown Prince and Crown Princess at the Lifeline Chicago Charity event in aid of equipment for hearts

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine were the guests of honour at a traditional humanitarian event “In aid of equipment for hearts” organized by the Lifeline Chicago Humanitarian Organization, that operates under auspices of Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Katherine, on Sunday in Chicago. Their Royal Highness were accompanied by their grandson Michael.

Speeches were given by Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine. Mrs Kathy Fanslow, President of the Board of Lifeline Chicago Humanitarian Organization gave a speech too. Speech was also given by The Acting Serbian Consul General Mr Dejan Radulovic.

Lifeline Charity dinner in Toronto “Wheels of Hope” to purchase vehicles for hospitals in Serbia

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine attended the “Wheels of Hope” charity fundraising event at the prestigious Granite Club, in Toronto Ontario, hosted by Lifeline Canada Humanitarian Organization, under the patronage of HRH Crown Princess Katherine.

The purpose of the event was to launch “The Wheels of Hope” campaign in support of urgently needed vehicles to transport patients to hospitals for treatments throughout Serbia. The aim of the event was to purchase as many of these vehicles as possible, with the hope to make someone’s life, just a little bit easier.

The Canadian diaspora responded to this plea in full force and raised enough funds to purchase 6 vehicles within one hour, during a very interesting and fun filled live auction, where the audience was invited to join together to buy parts of a vehicle, or an entire vehicle, if so inclined.

Most impressive in the evening was the purchase of two vehicles, one by Mr. Lou Strauss and Mrs. Gartner in celebration of her Mother’s 90 birthday, Mrs. Kosa Mitrovic in the town of Kovin, and one pledged by Mr. Zoran Churchin for town of Novi Sad.

Guests included the Very Reverend Father Vasilije Tomic, the Very Reverend Father Peter Avgeropoulos, His Excellency Mr. Mihajlo Papazoglu with his wife Djurdja, Consul Mr. Spasoje Milicevic and his wife Ljiljana, Mr. Danny Filipovic, Dr. Nada Beserminji, Mr. and Mrs. Rajko Djurdjevic, and Mr. and Mrs. Ardis Gardella from Grosse Pointe, Michigan.

Entertainment included the Oplenac folklore group and the evening was serenaded by the divine stylings of the PAGANINI orchestra.

Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine gave impassioned pleas for assistance and their speeches were truly inspirational.

A most pleasurable evening was had by all.

Crown Prince Alexander’s statement on Serbian heritage in Kosovo and Metohija

“Let us make Serbian heritage visible. Let us visit our monasteries in Kosovo and Metohija at least once a year”


On the occasion of the self-proclaimed state of Kosovo’s demands for the UNESCO membership, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander gave the following statement:

“We fought that Serbia take a prominent place in one of the most important world organizations, UNESCO. And for that I am grateful to all the responsible people in our culture and in the world. And again, for the second time in five years we have to defend our centuries-old heritage of the hypocrisy of politics.

Five years ago, we made it. We prevented renaming the Serbian heritage in the list of protected cultural heritage. We did it because rather than politics, we defend the indisputable principle that the name of civilization heritage to be protected must remain under the name under which it was inscribed on the UNESCO list.

I want you to know that my family and I, aided by the advisory bodies of the Crown for months have been doing everything in our power to prevent the adoption of the proposed decision by the General Conference of UNESCO next week. We are not doing that because almost all Serbian heritage in Kosovo and Metohija is the legacy of Serbian kings, but because it is the legacy that has been endangered as the civilizational heritage for decades, even without the international political power games.

And I hope that we, all together, are going to make it this time, too. But I have to say that it will not be enough. And it will not be permanent if here in Serbia we treat our heritage with political hypocrisy, dividing it to the church and royal, our own and other people’s.

To begin with, no matter how difficult, and my family and I have experienced this many times, please let us make our heritage alive. Let us make it visible. Let us, at least once a year, visit our monasteries in Kosovo and Metohija.

His Eminence Barnabas of Neapolis and Stavroupolis visits Royal Compound

Belgrade, November 6, 2015 – As part of his three-day visit to Serbia His Eminence Barnabas of Neapolis and Stavroupolis visited the Royal Compound in Dedinje accompanied by His Grace Arsenije, Vicar Bishop of Serbian Patriarch Irinej.

Metropolitan Barnabas of Neapolis and Stavroupolis is a great friend of the Royal Family and the Serbian people. Through his active love towards the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Serbian people, demonstrated especially by caring for the war orphans from Bosnia and Herzegovina during and after the war the 90s, by helping the Serbian Orthodox shrines in Kosovo and Metohija and by spiritual care of the Serbian military cemetery in Zejtinlik Thessaloniki, the Metropolitan has proved his brotherly affection for our country, and for that he was awarded a high recognition of the Serbian Orthodox Church – the Order of the Holy Emperor Constantine, by His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej in the Serbian Patriarchate this morning.

Due to the traditional humanitarian activities abroad, Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine were not able to be the Metropolitan’s hosts, so the host to His Eminence was Mr. Dragomir Acovic, the chairman of the Advisory Bodies of the Crown, to whom Metropolitan Barnabas handed a grammata of the Metropolitanate of Neapolis and Stavroupolis, as a sign of gratitude for the warm hospitality. Metropolitan Barnabas emphasized that he closely monitors all the activities of Crown Prince Alexander, Crown Princess Katherine and the entire Royal House and is always looking forward to meeting with the members of the Serbian Royal Family.

Crown Prince and Crown Princess at Saint Sava Cathedral New York annual benefit New York

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine were guests of honor at the Saint Sava Cathedral New York annual benefit last night at the Marriott Hotel – Downtown New York City.

Their Royal Highnesses were accompanied by Mrs Betty Roumeliotis the Crown Princess’s sister.

Their Royal Highnesses were welcomed by the Very Reverend Djokan Majstrorovic Cathedral Dean and Mr Nenad Milinkovic President of the Cathedral Executive Board.

Speech were given by Their Royal Highnesses, Mrs Mirjana Zivkovic Consul General of the Republic of Serbia and Mrs Zorka Milicic Chairperson of the Research and Development Committee.

All proceeds from the Banquet will be used towards the reconstruction of the cathedral. A musical program feature took place with “Vladan Mijatović Jazz Trio” with guest vocalist Aleksandra Denda, followed by “Vukan & Srđan” duo with renditions of modern and traditional Serbian music. There was also a capella performance by еtno group “Rose”.

His Majesty King Peter II and the entire Royal Family frequently attended services at St. Sava New York Cathedral.

Crown Prince Alexander extends deep condolences regarding the appalling terrorist attacks in Paris

Crown Princess Katherine Foundation launches humanitarian action “Help for Babies”

Belgrade, Crown Princess Katherine Humanitarian Foundation in collaboration with the TV show “Evening with Ivan Ivanovic” and supported by Adria Media Group has launched a humanitarian action “Help for Babies”, aiming to raise funds for the purchase of urgently needed neonatal care units for the University Children’s Hospital Tirsova, the Institute for Protection of Children and Youth in Novi Sad and the Clinic for Pediatric Surgery and Orthopedics in Nis.

The funds that will be raised will be directed to purchase two respirators – high frequency oscillating fan and a fiber optic bronchoscope, worth 80,000 euros.

There are many projects and successfully implemented humanitarian actions organized by HRH Crown Princess Katherine for the past 20 years, as well as yet more to come.
