ANNOUNCEMENT

Record attendance expected for pitching business ideas at the Royal Palace

Belgrade 30 April 2014 - Under the auspices of HRH Crown Prince Alexander’s Foundation for Education and Culture, Startup weekend is coming once again to Serbia on 9 May, after being hosted successfully in the Royal Palace last year. Whether you have a business idea or a skill that is necessary in building a successful startup, this event is certainly one that aspiring entrepreneurs, developers, marketers and financiers should not miss.

Crown Prince Alexander who spear headed this initiative and is excited about his attendance said: “Entrepreneurship is key to economic recovery and is the backbone of every economy. Serbs have entrepreneurial dreams and I want to help fulfill those dreams. I have hosted many events for startups and entrepreneurship over the years. I have also discussed with investors across the world the opportunities that exist here. Perception, talent and education is key to entrepreneurship and we are blessed in this country with these traits. Last year's startup weekend success shows that this will become a reality very quickly. Many people from last year continued after startup weekend with their venture. Some were funded, and some continued to pursue startup initiatives and all were delighted with the results. I think it is important not only for the Serbians to see what success they can have, but the world to see what great talent we have. There is much to be done though. We need more activities, events, education and mentorships to help develop the startup ecosystem. For example in technology, which is key, we need to further develop our technical education. I hope that others will join me in developing Serbia to be the top startup scene".

Last year at the first startup weekend, creative minds ranging from entrepreneurs to graphic designers gathered at The Royal Palace in Belgrade and worked intensively on taking their ideas and turning them into a business in only 54 hours. More than 100 participants worked on 14 different ideas with the help of 15 mentors from different areas of expertise and all this with the active participation of The Royal Family, who were present during the whole event and of course, were proudly listening to the final presentations at the end. One of the companies created at this event is Brides2Bride, that this year received a 90.000 EUR non-refundable grant from Innovation Fund to further develop their business.

Belgrade 2nd Startup Weekend is a perfect opportunity for meeting with potential partners who will help you to make your idea come to life, but also for already launched startups to improve themselves and to get some additional finances for their businesses.

The members of the Royal Council for Entrepreneurship, including SPEA and SEE ICT are supporting this event together with Crown Prince Alexander Foundation. Ernst & Young has recognized the importance of this event for the second year in a row and is a gold sponsor.

The winners will get tickets for Belgrade Venture Forum, FundraiseIT conference, a chance to pitch at Startit Fest, and free participation in Ceed programme as well as many other prizes.

Vidovdan Temple Model and Kosovo Cycle sculptures of Ivan Mestrovic at the White Palace for the Night of the Museums

Belgrade, 13 May 2014 – Royal Palace will again take part of this years’ Night of the Museums by presenting “Vidovdan Temple” model of world famous sculptor Ivan Mestrovic in cooperation with the National Museum of Krusevac and sculptures from his Kosovo Cycle, on Saturday, May 17, from 6 pm to 2 am at the White Palace in Dedinje Royal Compound (entrance from Baje Pivljanina Str).

Praised and criticized, exalted and blasphemed, Vidovdan temple by Ivan Mestrovic is one of the least known famous artistic and political projects in the history of Serbs and Serbia. It was created at the time of a revived and powerful national fervour, less than a quarter of a century since the kingdom was restored and encouraged Serbian state celebrated five hundred years since the epic battle of Kosovo. In 1911 Serbia decided to exhibit this project at the world exhibition in Rome. The enormous cost of such investments and the outbreak of the great war of the 20th century, which marked the entire recent history of Serbia, made the project unfeasible, and its impossibility made it almost mythical. In 1915, the temple’s model was sent from the Roman exhibition to London, then to New York and there, forgotten and pushed to the rear of interest in comparison to the news about the state of the fronts and the agony of the earlier world – it disappeared! In 1968, just like in a scene from the film “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, the model was found in a warehouse by the docks of New York. It was identified and sent to Belgrade. There it was professionally repaired and restored, and then, in silence, transferred to the Museum in Krusevac, where it has remained until today.

During Night of the Museums, sculptures of Ivan Mestrovic from his Kosovo Cycle that are part of the Royal Compound Art Collection will also be displayed: sculpture of Marko Kraljevic, sculpture of Petar Petrovic Njegos, sculpture Memory, small model of sphinx from the Kings Office, together with several posters. Professional Art Historians will guide the visitors.

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander II and Royal Family cordially invite all to visit the White Palace during the Night of the Museums and get acquainted with some of the greatest works of our National art.

Crown Prince Alexander II at “Cars and Karadjordjevic dynasty” book promotion

Belgrade, May 15, 2014 - His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander II accompanied by Mr. Dragomir Acović, Chairman of the Crown Council, attended the launch of the book “Cars and Karadjordjevic dynasty” by Miroslav Milutinovic. The book was symbolically presented at the building of the Archives of Yugoslavia, which was built as a foundation, at the initiative and with the financial support of His Majesty King Alexander I, the grandfather of HRH Crown Prince Alexander II.

At the promotion, beside its author those present were addressed by the director of the Archives of Yugoslavia Miladin Milosevic, the editor Peter Arbutina, Chairman of the Privy Council Dragomir Acović, and the president of the Association of Motorsports Historians Nebojsa Djordjevic.
The book deals with an important part of automobile history in Serbia from 1908 to 1941. Readers will find a number of interesting and little known facts about the most popular cars of that era, which thanks to some members of the Karadjordjevic dynasty could be found on our streets. The author of the book, carefully researched the history of motoring, the book highlights an interesting part of the national past, closely related to the Royal Family, and the development of technological revolution in Serbia. In the book we learn which car was used by each member of the dynasty, as well as accurate information about the characteristics of each vehicle. The richly illustrated monograph were made even more interesting by quoting information about the prices of cars, fuel costs, maintenance and supply of spare parts, as well as the traffic regulations of the time.
The fact is that the members of the Karadjordjevic dynasty were driving the most representative and most reliable cars of the time. Also, the choice of cars reveals the taste and needs of the Royal family in the first half of the 20th century. On the other hand, the dynasty’s relation to cars influenced the development of the automobile culture in the country, says Miroslav Milutinovic. The advent of cars in Serbia was not at all that delayed in comparison to other European countries. In addition to the exclusivity of the material presented in the book, it is important to note it is well supported facts, which are the result of the author’s dedicated research. This is evidenced by the abundance of data and a broad background documentation containing quotes from hundreds of sources.
HRH Crown Prince Alexander II warmly recommends to the citizens of Serbia to read this interesting book.

Have the powers the be in Serbia.....that seen to be in control of everything set up a PAYPAL facility to ease financial payment.....

Are there alternative financial payment methods? Where your hard earn monies, are not partially eaten by the banks and general spongers along the route. That assistance actually reaches the people that need it, and that its not entrusted to people, who are incapable of spending it effectively and wisely, of which there are countless examples!
