Second time in a row largest European Seed Fund comes to Serbia to meet innovative companies

Belgrade 18 May 2014 – Young Serbian tech entrepreneurs presented their ideas and companies to the Europe’s largest and most successful seed fund accelerator – Seedcamp in The Royal Palace today and competed for an investment. This is their second consecutive visit and last year they accepted the first Serbian company in their programme. The visit is part of Startit Fest and is organized by The Royal Council for entrepreneurship and SEE ICT.

At the beginning of the event, a minute of silence was held for all victims of catastrophic floods in Serbia.

Last year after the Seedcamp event at the Palace they chose the first Serbian company to invest in, TruckTrack, startup that creates software for small and media trucking companies. This Serbian company has in less than a year received 280,000 EUR investment and this year this might be a chance for additional 12 companies that have chosen to present themselves.

One of Crown Prince Alexander Foundation for Education goals is to strengthen entrepreneurial opportunities in Serbia. After organizing very successful Startup Weekend for the second time which gathered more than 100 startup enthusiasts and supporting many different entrepreneurial projects, The Royal Palace was again the place of connecting entrepreneurs with investors.

“Entrepreneurship is important for numerous reasons, but one of most important is job creation and we will not stop until everyone has a job in Serbia“, says HRH Crown Prince Alexander “It is time for all of us to unite and make this happen! I personally invite all investors throughout the world to come to Serbia and see the lucrative opportunities and brilliant minds we have”.

Seedcamp event is part of Startit Fest, the biggest startup event in this part of the Europe. This 5-day-festival will bring many important entrepreneurs, media and investors to Serbia and will connect them to our entrepreneurial ecosystem and Royal Council for Entrepreneurship is its key partner.

The organizer of Startit Fest is SEE ICT, member of Royal Council for Entrepreneurship, a young, Belgrade based innovation support non-profit that contributes to the creation and development of a vibrant environment for growth of startups, startup culture and community in Serbia and the whole South-East Europe region.

Entrepreneurship is the backbone of every successful economy. Besides contributing highly to country’s GDP, small and middle enterprises are more innovative and flexible and tend to employ more young people, which is very important for our country, since youth makes up 1/3 of all unemployed in Serbia.

Seedcamp invests in about 20 startups globally annually. Besides funding, the chosen startups receive 3 months of office space at Google Campus London, €150K worth of services in Founders' Pack (that startups would otherwise be spending money on), weekly office hours with the Seedcamp team, monthly learning days that keep them connected well beyond 3-months of co-location, and a 4-week mentoring tour of the US.
