Belgrade, 11 December 2014 – Children from Belgrade international schools visited the Royal Palace in the last three days as part of the “Children Helping Children” charity campaign traditionally organized by Crown Princess Katherine Foundation for the Christmas holidays.

The students from the International School of Belgrade, the British International School, the German International School, the Anglo-American International School, Primary and Secondary school “Rudjer Boskovic” and Russian school in Belgrade had the opportunity to listen to the professional tour guide who told them interesting facts about the history of the Palace and the works of art that adorn it, as part of the Royal Compound tour. The students had the chance to share the spirit of charity by donated gifts to their peers from Serbian orphanages. The idea was that the children learn about charitable activities and how to help their peers from homes for children without parental care, children with disabilities and Roma children. Crown Prince celebrates Patron Saint Day of St. Andrew the First-Called

[Слика: IMG_8720m.jpg]

[Слика: IMG_6115m.jpg]

In the morning His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej officiated the Liturgy at the Royal Chapel of St. Andrew the First-Called together with His Grace Bishop Jovan of Sumadija and the clergy of Belgrade-Karlovac diocese.

After the Liturgy the act of cutting the Slava cake was performed in the Blue room of the Royal Palace, which was conducted by His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej.

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander addressed the distinguished guests and friends present at the Slava lunch: “Difficult times, dear friends, for us Serbs are nothing new! We are born in torment, we live in trouble, struggling with adversities and wage war without end. And we are winning. The proof of this is the fact that we are still here. Since time immemorial to Saint Sava, from Saint Sava to Karadjordje, from Karadjordje to us, from us to eternity and as long as the God recognizes us as his people! Hard times are today, too, but our road leads through hardship. Our road is straight and right and on that road our Patron Saint is the lighthouse and direction. And those who, by the fate of history, quit their patron saints, remember them, their “Slava” name, and they know who they are and who they follow on their road. We are God’s people, knights of our Patron Saints, a nation among the nations. Do not ask for a better people, because you will lose this one that you have and who you are! His Holiness Serbian Patriarch has done us the honour on this day, too, to offer a service and sacrifice to the Lord and his first called apostle, and share with us the joy and privilege of this “Slava” dining table, and I most gratefully thank him on behalf of my whole family and our Royal House, as well as to all of you who are here and now with us”.

His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia has said: “Every home in Serbia and every home of Serbs in Diaspora is a part of the Royal House, so in that way Patron St. Day of Crown Prince Alexander is Patron St. Day of all Serbs. He is celebrating it today, as our tradition and customs command, on his behalf, on behalf of the Royal House and the whole Serbian nation. I hope, as well as our Church does, that the Crown Prince will continue tradition of his glorious ancestors, and become the King, as he is entitled by the law and by justice.”

Crown Prince awarded for supporting start-ups and entrepreneurs

Belgrade, 16 December 2014 – His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander was awarded yesterday at the European Business Angels Investment Forum in Istanbul as the Royal Family who gives the most support to startups and entrepreneurs in South East Europe. The award ceremony took place at the gala dinner to celebrate the European Business Angels Week at the Shangri-La Bosphorus Hotel – Istanbul.

On the behalf of Crown Prince, Mr Zoran Markovic, Consul General of the Republic of Serbia accepted the reward and read his letter to the audience. In his letter, the Crown Prince thanked EBAN – European Business Angels Network, TBAA – Business Angels Association of Turkey, Borsa Istanbul and Forbes – Para Conferences for their great contribution to the global entrepreneurship ecosystem by organising the European Business Angels Investment Forum and pointed out: “The most important global challenge of the 21st century is to create new jobs for new generations. IT and mobile technology investments are increasing globally, which results in fewer people being recruited for new jobs. Because technology handles so much of the work, there will be less demand for manpower. The only solution to this challenge is to create a different mindset for the young generation. This new mindset is very clear: Set up your own business instead of looking for a job!”.

One of Crown Prince Alexander Foundation for Education goals is to strengthen entrepreneurial opportunities in Serbia. Two very successful Startup Weekends were organized in the Palaces, which supported more than 200 entrepreneurs through mentorship, contacts and even finances. The Palace has also hosted twice the biggest European seed fund, Seedcamp, and organized many other events to support the development of entrepreneurial and startup ecosystem. Teams that have participated in the programs have so far raised more than 500.000 euros of investment.

Crown Prince Alexander is also a founder of The Royal Council for entrepreneurship, which is a body that gathers most important organizations that support entrepreneurship in Serbia and empowering entrepreneurs is one of the main goals of the foundation.

This award shows that this actions are not only important and recognized in Serbia, but also from a global perspective.

Royal Family not invited to the Battle of Kolubara anniversary

Karadjordjevic’s ignored

Belgrade – Prince Alexander Karadjordjevic, the grandson of the supreme commander of the Serbian army in the First World War, was not invited to the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Kolubara, nor the official protocol included laying his wreath in honour of the fallen soldiers in this battle – confirmed the Royal Palace PR to “Danas”.

At the Palace, they consider it was a “malicious failure not to invite Crown Prince Alexander, not only to the celebration of the Battle of Kolubara, but also the Battle of Cer, as well as to the other public celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, because the descendants of Serbian Voivodas Stepa Stepanovic and Zivojin Misic were invited”.

They also point out that Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic in his speech did not mention King Peter I and King Alexander.

Yesterday it was not possible to get an answer from the Government of Serbia who determines the protocol in such situations. The Ministry of Labour, Employment, Social Affairs and Veterans told “Danas” they were not responsible for the guests and it is in the competence of the Ministry of Culture’s Committee for marking 100 years since the beginning of the First World War. The Ministry of Culture, however, claims they have nothing to do with it, and that it is the job of the special Committee for preserving the tradition of the liberation wars at the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Social Affairs and Veterans.

Prince Alexander, however, did attend the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Kolubara last week in Lazarevac, as the guest of Serbian Patriarch Irinej and Bishop Jovan of Sumadija, and, as announced by the Royal Palace, “laid a wreath and paid tribute to the memory of the Serbian warriors who gave their lives for king and country”.

Statement of the Advisory Bodies of the Crown on the state and state protocol’s relation to the Royal Family Karadjordjevic

This year marks the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. Our allies in the global cataclysm called it the Great War for Civilization! We Serbs considered it the war for the liberation and unification of the Serbs and other South Slavs. We did not provoke it, we did not strive for it, but we as a people and as a nation responded to the attack as we should and as we had to!

All countries and peoples who had the fate to be absorbed by the winds of war, willingly or unwillingly, have marked the memory of those long-ago events, distant in time but close by the consequences which we still bear and live. In Serbia, an attempt has been made to pay due attention and recognition to the memory of the victims. We can agree or not whether enough has been done, but the attempt is not debatable, and we believe neither is the desire of the descendants to prove modern thrift on the gratitude to the ancestors, nor the intention that their heroism is not invested in their own political and ethical pragmatism.

However, with great regret we note that the state, at the highest and high levels, did not miss a chance to demonstrate commitment to the poor tradition of Titoist heritage, which involves concealing the role and significance of King Peter I and Regent, later King Alexander. To talk about the Battles of Cer and Kolubara, without mentioning the great and democratic ruler of Serbia, to whom the Serbian warriors gave and maintained their oath, and ignoring the Supreme Commander of that heroic army, is simply rude! It should be reminded that in the first defensive phase of the Battle of Kolubara, the arrival of the old King Peter on the battlefield, at the front line, had a crucial importance for raising, at that point, the weakened moral of the army.

To act in an offensive manner towards their great-grandson and grandson, to humiliate him protocolary and to deny his right to lay wreath during a ceremony, cannot be justified by the needs of the protocol. The protocol that dictates rudeness is not a protocol, it is thin and transparent mist hiding the disrespect of the very ceremony, its meaning and content. This same protocol recognized only the descendants of the Voivodas, who apparently, according to the latest interpretation of history by the authorities, were self-organized, without the head of state and Supreme Commander. That this was no coincidence, showed the example of the exhibition held at the Royal Palace on November 11, the Armistice Day. The exhibition, titled “Karadjordjevic Dynasty in the Great War” had a fantastic attendance, the cultural elite and the entire diplomatic corps came to see it, and not a single representative of the state.

This is not done in the country that values itself, nor in people who respect themselves!

What is the state of the Serbian Throne?

When King Peter II passed away, his only son, Crown Prince Alexander, became the new King. The transition of the Kingship was immediate, it was without any conditions and irrevocable. As long as the King is alive, King Peter II only heir is Crown Prince Alexander, regardless of whether he is of age or not. At the moment of the death of the Crown Prince Alexander’s father King Peter II, Crown Prince Alexander became the King and head of the Royal Family.

The Head of the Royal Family and the personality of the King and his function are united in the same person. HRH Crown Prince Alexander does not officially use at this time the title of King, but this has absolutely no bearings on his status and rights. The position and the right pertaining to the King can only be renounced through an official act of abdication, in which case the Crown Prince automatically becomes the new King.
