Crown Prince Alexander invites citizens to visit the Royal Compound in Dedinje

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine have the pleasure to announce that the Royal Compound tourist season is open from April 7 to October 31. Tours include the Royal Palace, the White Palace, the Park and the Royal Chapel. Visitors will accompanied by professional tour guides. Get acquainted with history, art and culture that our country is proud of during the pleasant two hour walk.

The Royal Compound in Dedinje in cooperation with Tourist Organisation of Belgrade (TOB) announces opening of the 2016 Tourist season and the first tour traditionally organised for Media representatives took place today.

Every Saturday and Sunday from April 7 through October 31 at two regular times 11 am and 2 pm, the Tourist Organisation of Belgrade (TOB) will organise tours through the Royal Compound, while group visits are possible during working days with prior announcement. The entry ticket includes a round trip transfer tourist bus starting from Nikola Pasic Square in Belgrade; the Royal Compound is only a few minutes away from the city centre. Buses leave Nikola Pasic Square at 10:30 am and at 1:30 pm. The number of visitors is limited to 50 per group.

The Royal Palace was built between 1924 and 1929 with the private funds of His Majesty King Alexander I (the grandfather of HRH Crown Prince Alexander). The architects were Zivojin Nikolic and Nikolay Krassnoff of the Royal Academy. The palace is made of white stone in the Serbian-Byzantine style. Attached to The Royal Palace there is a Royal Chapel dedicated to Saint Apostle Andrew The First-Called, the Patron Saint of The Royal Family. The Royal Palace was the home of King Alexander I and King Peter II. Today The Royal Palace is the home of Crown Prince Alexander and his family.

The White Palace is located within the same complex as The Royal Palace and it was commissioned by command of His Majesty King Alexander I as the residence for his three sons HRH Crown Prince Peter (the future King Peter II), Prince Tomislav and Prince Andrej. King Alexander I envisaged that his three sons would require their own private accommodation when they became of age, but his assassination in Marseille caused the destiny of his sons to take a different turn. The young King Peter II became the new master of the Dedinje Complex and the completion of The White Palace was supervised by King Peter II great uncle HRH Prince Regent Paul. It was built from 1934 until 1936, as the project of the architect Alexander Djordjevic. When completed it became the official residence on loan to HRH Prince Regent Paul and his family, until King Peter II came of age. The ground floor of this classicistic palace houses a large hall and a number of drawing rooms furnished in the style of Louis XV and Louis XVI with large Venetian chandeliers. There is also a library which had more than 35 000 books and a formal Chippendale dining room.

The Palace Church is attached to the south side of The Royal Palace and linked to the main building by a colonnade of stone pillars. The Church is dedicated to St. Andrew the First Called (the Royal Family’s Patron Saint). The Church is based on the model of the monastery Church of Saint Andrew on the River Treska in Macedonia, which was built by Andrew the son of the Serbian medieval King Vukasin. The Church was designed and built at the same time as The Royal Palace.

The interior of the Church is covered with frescoes painted by a team of artists from the Belgrade Artist Association. Following King Alexander I instructions this group visited most of the Serbian medieval monasteries in order to copy their frescos. The group was led by academician Nikolai Kasnoff. After preparing the walls and cataloguing the drawings the final decision to go ahead was made by King Alexander I. The Russian painters Boris Obrascov, Nikolai Maiendorf, Vladimir Bickovski, Viktor Sevcov, and Reitlinger and Evgeny Varnu-Secret were chosen to paint the Church. All painters were requested to produce records of their previous work in medieval monasteries. The whole project for the completion of the Church took about 36 months.

This is just a brief introduction for all interested citizens who are invited to visit this extraordinary cultural and historical compound, that has had several tens of thousands domestic and foreign visitors last year.

Crown Prince congratulates his godmother Queen Elizabeth

Crown Prince Alexander sent congratulations today for his Godmother Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday:

“It is with greatest pleasure that I personally congratulated Her Majesty who is at Windsor Castle for her the 90th birthday. I mentioned that her dedication to serving her country is a shining example of the role of a monarch in today’s world. I wished the Queen many years to come in being loved and respected by the people of the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and the entire world. God bless the Queen!”

Crown Prince Alexander was born on Yugoslav territory as the British Government under the orders of Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill declared suite 212 in Claridge’s Hotel Yugoslav territory. His Holiness Patriarch Gavrilo of Serbia baptized the newborn Crown Prince in Westminster Abbey with Godparents King George VI and HRH Princess Elizabeth (now HM The Queen Elizabeth II).

“I have very fond memories being with Her Majesty at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle many times. Her Majesty was always very good to me and very caring. Crown Princess Katherine, Prince Peter, Prince Philip and Prince Alexander admire the Queen very much and enjoy conversation with her” – said Crown Prince Alexander.

CROWN PRINCE ALEXANDER’S MESSAGE ON THE OCCASION OF DAY OF REMEMBRANCE OF THE HOLOCAUST AND GENOCIDE VICTIMS AND ALL THE VICTIMS OF FASCISM

Serbia today marks the Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust, genocide victims and victims of fascism. On this occasion, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander sent the following message:
“Today, on the Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust, we remember the victims of the death camps and all the victims who gave their lives in World War II. With great sadness we remember the victims of Jasenovac and Auschwitz, the victims in Novi Sad, Jajinci, Old Fairgrounds… The frightening plan to destroy the entire Jewish nation, but also members of other nations, obliges us to constantly educate our youth and emphasize diversity as something that brings people together in the hope that such atrocities will never happen again. We have an obligation as the nation to remember the victims, and to respect them, but also to build a society where anti-fascism and anti-fascist values have a special place. We are proud of our anti-fascist tradition and we must not allow relativization of war crimes. Only with a clear awareness of the past, even the darkest of its parts, we can look to the future”- said Crown Prince Alexander.

Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine will attend the 70th birthday of His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine will go to Stockholm this coming weekend for the 70th birthday of His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia came to Belgrade last July for Crown Prince Alexander’s 70th birthday.

Their Royal Highnesses will be attending the Easter service Sunday 1 May at Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Stockholm. On Sunday, 5 October 2014,Their Royal Highnesses were present with His Holiness Patriarch Irinej at the consecration of Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Church.

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander congratulated the upcoming Easter holidays to His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia, Hierarchs of our Sacred Church, clergy, monks and all citizens of Serbia and Republic of Srpska who celebrate Easter according to the Julian Calendar. On the eve of the feast above all feasts, Crown Prince Alexander sent the following message:

It is Easter, time when we remember that by His resurrection, Jesus defeated death and presented life! He made a present to all who heard and understood the Sermon on the Mount and promise of eternal life, and who understood it by heart and by mind.

Easter is not just time of celebration, but also time to remember and mention in our prayers all those who are not with us anymore, but who never departed and live through us. Our people live in complicated times, we remember that we have been bombed on Easter, not just once and not by coincidence. We are nation that remembers, and that confirms its right to exist and to forgive through our memories. But we never forget, so that all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives haven’t done that in vain.

But we also remember last words of our Savior from the cross, and we pray that we all be forgiven and our lives justified. We owe that to each other and to ourselves, and we owe that to those who follow us, to whom we must leave a heritage of love, good deeds and hope. We owe it as people who create and respect life, people who deserve salvation, and who are worthy of efforts and love by our creator.

To all who celebrate this holiday above all holidays we extend this message of peace and belief in eternal life.

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine are presently at the Royal Palace in Stockholm as guest of the Royal Family of Sweden, on the occasion of 70th birthday of His Majesty King Carl Gustaf XVI.
Crown Prince and Crown Princess, together with their hosts of King and Queen of Sweden and members of Royal Families from all around the world attended last night concert of classical music by Swedish Royal Opera at “Stockholm Nordic Museum”, and today in the morning a Te Deum thanksgiving service was held at the Royal Chapel. That is special ceremony held only on most important occasions for the Royal family like birthdays, baptism or anniversaries.
The parade of armed forces was organized in front of the Royal Palace, with several thousand citizens in attendance. Reception for the Riksdag, the Swedish Government and the county governors in connection with The King’s birthday will be then held, and official celebration of the King’s birthday will concluded this evening with Gala dinner at the Royal Palace.
Celebrations in honour of King’s 70th birthday was attended by King Carl Gustaf XVI and Queen Silvia of Sweden, Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince David, Princess Madeleine of Sweden and her husband Christopher O’Neill, Princess Christina and Tord Magnusson, Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain, Prince Albert of Monaco, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, King Simeon and Queen Margarita of Bulgaria, Crown Prince Frederick and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, Princess Margareta and Prince Radu of Romania, Princess Hisako of Takamado.
Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine will attend tonight a gala dinner on honour of King’s birthday, and tomorrow, on Sunday, together with Orthodox faithful will attend an Easter Liturgy at “St. Sava” Serbian Orthodox Church in Stockholm that will be officiated by His Grace Bishop Dositej of Britain – Scandinavia.

THE ROYAL COUPLE DELIVERS CAR TO HEALTH CENTRE IN NOVI SAD

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine, together with Mrs Betty Roumeliotis, sister of Princess Katherine, visited today Novi Sad and delivered a Fiat 500L for transporting patients in need of therapy to the Health Center Novi Sad. The funds for the car have been provided through the Lifeline Canada Humanitarian Organization, whose patron is Crown Princess Katherine.
The Crown Prince and Crown Princess first visited the Health Center in Novi Sad on Wednesday at 10:00 am, and officially handed the Fiat 500L keys to Dr. Veselin Bojat, the director of this institution. Dr Bojat thanked Their Royal Highnesses for this valuable donation, which will be of great benefit to patients and staff of the Health Center in Novi Sad.
Crown Prince Alexander said he was very proud of the work his wife Crown Princess Katherine and her Humanitarian Foundation and their continuous work to improve the quality of health institutions in Serbia.
Crown Princess Katherine thanked her colleagues from the Lifeline Canada Humanitarian Organization, thanks to which the funds were provided for the purchase of the car delivered. She noted that, with the help of these organizations whose patron she was, last month Fiat 500 L cars were donated to Health Centre in Kraljevo, Valjevo General Hospital, the Health Center in Kovin, as well as the Hospital in Pozarevac.
Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine visited the department of pediatrics at the Health Centre Novi Sad and delivered gifts to the children who were patients there. Director of Health Center Dr Bojat briefed Their Royal Highnesses on the continuing needs of this health institution, and the Royal Couple has confirmed that together with their friends from abroad will continue to provide assistance.
During the day, Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine visited the Women’s Shelter handing the manager of this institution, Ms. Nada Padeski clothes, shoes and toys that were provided thanks to Lifeline Humanitarian Organization Chicago, while the sweets were provided by the Delhaize company.
The Crown Princess has announced that she is going to continuously work on solving the problem of unemployment among women staying in the Women’s Shelter because in her opinion that is the foundation on which women can build their secure future.

On the occasion of the death of HRH Prince Alexander Karadjordjevic His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander gave the following statement:
“It was with sadness that I received the news of passing away of His Royal Highness Prince Alexander Karadjordjevic, the eldest son of Their Royal Highnesses the late Prince Paul and Princess Olga. He left his widowed wife, Her Royal Highnesses Princess Barbara and five children.
My wife, the entire Royal House and I join in extending our condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of the deceased Prince. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family at this sad time”.

SEVENTH SERBIAN DIASPORA MEDICAL CONFERENCE WELCOME RECEPTION AT WHITE PALACE

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine hosted a reception at the White Palace tonight to mark the beginning of the Seventh Serbian Diaspora Medical Conference. The Royal couple was accompanied by their son by Mr David Andrews and Mrs Betty Roumeliotis, sister of Crown Princess Katherine.
This year’s conference brings together more than 60 lecturers from abroad, including the speakers that come FROM the Mayo Clinic and Harvard, and “covers a wide range of medical sciences, in various fields of medicine, with a focus on endocrinology, cardiology, psychiatry, orthopedics, onkopatologiju, pediatric Hematology and Cardiology.
Speakers and moderators are the most prominent medical experts from Serbia and abroad. This year the Conference is attended by more than five hundred doctors. The objectives of the Conference are to promote cooperation between our doctors and experts in the field of medical sciences from the Diaspora with the institutions and individuals in Serbia, as well as their networking with Serbian academic community.
Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine welcomed the speakers and thanked them for their efforts and wished that all together help Serbian health system for the benefit of all citizens of our country.
Beside Their Royal Highnesses the guests were greeted by the members of the Royal Medical Board Prof. Ida Jovanovic and Prof. Dusica Babovic, and the director of the Serbian Medical Chamber Dr. Vesna Jovanovic.
Children’s Choir “Magic” enchanted all the guests with their performance.

Crown Prince hosts a dinner in honor of members of the Holy Assembly of Bishops

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander hosted a dinner at the White Palace today in honor of Arch hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church who are participating in the regular Church Assembly.

Dinner was attended by His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia with Metropolitans and Bishops of the Church, Prof. Dr Mileta Radojevic, director of the Office for cooperation with churches and religious organizations and members of the advisory bodies to the Crown.

“It is an honour to welcome Arch hierarchs of our Church to the home of my ancestors. I am always happy to be with you and to hear words of faith and wisdom! We pray to God to bless this meeting. We are aware of great problems and challenges that lay ahead of us. We must understand and accept our responsibilities, as individuals and as a nation. To work together to respond with good to evil and with love to hate. Please let us pray Arch hierarchs of our Church that God gives you strength and courage, and to give us all strength, faith and love not to embarrass ourselves before God, before ourselves and centuries. As you know, my cousin Prince Alexander, the eldest son of Prince Paul and Princess Olga passed away last week. We will bury him in Oplenac tomorrow. Eternal glory to him!”

Thanking for the hospitality, His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia wished the good luck to the Royal Family, peace, justice and salvation to all people of good will, our friends and our enemies.

Rhetoric Competition at the White Palace

The Rhetoric Competition was organised by the Kingdom of Serbia Association Belgrade Chapter, and with the support of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander, the second largest annual competition in rhetoric on the topic “The ideal politician” was held at the White Palace today. The final competition included ten students from Belgrade University and high school students who came to the final round through qualifications that were previously organised at the Kingdom of Serbia Association premises. The contestants were evaluated by the jury composed of: Mr. Predrag Markovic, former Speaker of the National Parliament and a member of the Crown Council, Archpriest-Stavrophore Stojadin Pavlovic, director of the Patriarchal administrative offices and editor in chief of TV Hram and Mr. Bošsko Colak Antic, publicist and journalist .

After performing the original version of the anthem “God of Justice” a minute of silence was held in memory of the recently deceased His Royal Highness Prince Alexander Karadjordjevic, the eldest son of Their Royal Highnesses Prince Paul and Princess Olga. The guests were briefly greeted by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexandaer, who, due to mourning, limited his personal presence and the presence of the members of the Royal Family to the previously scheduled events during this and next week.

“Good education can significantly improve our country. In cooperation with the Kingdom of Serbia Association we work daily in this field. I am very happy that my wife and I can help Serbia become a better place to live in, where the young people will be able to progress”, said the Crown Prince.

This year’s winner of the Rhetoric Competition on the topic “The ideal politician” is Darko Jovanovic, student legal business school in Belgrade, where the trophy and medal presented by the President of the Association of the Kingdom of Serbia, Mr. Mario Majstorovic.

Exhibition “Karadjordjevic and Romanov Dynasties – Historical Ties” opens at White Palace

An exhibition that shows all historical ties between the two royal dynasties – Karadjordjevic and Romanov, was officially opened tonight at the White Palace. The author of the exhibition is Mr Dusan Babac. Beside Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander, Crown Princess Katherine,Prince Serge, Princess Eleonora and Mrs Betty Roumeliotis, the sister of Crown Princess Katherine, the opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Defence HE Mr Zoran Djordjevic, Mr. Petar Valentinovich Multatuli, Senior Research Fellow of the Institute of RISI from Moscow, the chief of analysis and assessment sector, members of the Advisory Bodies of the Crown, the representatives of the Serbian Army and the Serbian Orthodox Church, as well as many representatives of cultural and public life. The program was enriched with the performance by Slavic Choir from Belgrade, who performed the original version of the Serbian national anthem and the anthem of Imperial Russia.

The exhibition is set up in the dining room and the Grand and Small Salons of the White Palace, and visitors will be able to see how Tsar Alexander I Romanov supported Supreme Leader Karadjordje, the photos of Princes George and Alexander in Russian military services, visit of King Peter I to Russia in 1910 and 1911, the wedding of Princess Helen and the Grand Duke Ioan Konstantinovich Romanov, and the support of the Emperor Nicholas II to Serbia in 1914 and 1915.

All visitors to the Museum Night will be able to see the exhibition tomorrow!

Welcoming the guests His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander said: “It is very nice that the exhibition “The Karadjordjevic and Romanov Dynasties – Historical Ties” is set in the Palace of my grandfather, King Alexander I. From my great ancestor Karadjordje, to my father, King Peter II, and until today, the ties between the imperial Romanov family and my family have always reflected the traditional friendship between Serbia and Russia” – said Crown Prince Alexander who thanked the Military and Historical museums of Serbia, the “Dunav Osiguranje” insurance company and the historian Petar Multatuli from the Moscow institute “RISI” for the support in the organization of this exhibition.

Beside His Royal Highness the guests at the opening ceremony were also addressed by Mr. Dragomir Acovic, chairman of the Crown Council and Mr. Petar Valentinovich Multatuli.

Last night the exhibition “Karadjordjevic and Romanov Dynasties –Historical Ties” was presented to His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia and the Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church who were the guests of HRH Crown Prince Alexander at the Royal Palace at the dinner on the occasion of the regular session of the Holy Assembly of Bishops.

Museum Night Karadjordjevics and Romanovs at the White Palace

The White Palace was one of most visited locations again this year during Museum Night. This year visitors could see an exhibition showing historical connections between two Royal Dynasties – Karadjordjevic’s and Romanovs by author Mr Dusan Babac.

The exhibition was set up in the White Palace dinning room, and visitors could see how Tsar Alexander I Romanov supported Supreme Leader Karadjordje, photos of Princes George and Alexander in Russian military services, visit of King Peter I to Russia in 1910 and 1911, wedding of Princess Helen and the Grand Duke Ioan Konstantinovich Romanov and the support of the Emperor Nicholas II to Serbia in 1914 and 1915.

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine came to the White Palace unannounced and surprised visitors who were there. They talked to visitors who took opportunity of taking photos with the Royal Couple.

Royal Couple at charity dinner in New Jersey

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine, accompanied by Mrs Betty Roumeliotis, the Crown Princess’ sister, attended last night a charity dinner at ”The Manor”, an exclusive restaurant in New Jersey, organized by Lifeline New York Humanitarian Organization, whose patron is Crown Princess Katherine.

This dinner was organized with the aim to raise funds for the purchase of a Fiat 500L car that Their Royal Highnesses will deliver to the General Hospital in Arandjelovac to use for the transport of patients in need of therapy. Also at the dinner funds were raised for the construction of a family house in the village of Mojsinje. The family has been living in desperate conditions, despite the extremely difficult situation of all members of the family.

The organization of this charity dinner was wholeheartedly helped by Mrs. Daniela Bosnjak Celiković, with the generous help of Dr. Paul Topalovic, Mr. Stanko Stankovic and Mr. Jugoslav Celikovic.

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine warmly thank their friends who have selflessly supported them for years in raising funds for health care institutions around the country, but also for all the other numerous projects that the Royal Couple has carried out through their Foundations, in order to provide help everywhere where it is needed in Serbia.

Royal Couple at charity luncheon for restoration of St. Sava Church in New York City

Cambridge, United States. 5 June 2016 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine accompanied by her granddaughter Amanda and her fiancé Nathaniel and her sister Mrs Betty Roumeliotis attended this morning the Liturgy at Saint Sava Church in Cambridge (Boston, MA), and then a charity luncheon in aid of restoration of Saint Sava Church in New York City that was destroyed by fire one month ago.

Hosts of this humanitarian event were Father Aleksandar Vlajkovic and Saint Sava Church Cambridge Parish. In his address, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander said he was very happy to be with his compatriots and his friends in Cambridge after 16 years, and thanked them for their very warm welcome.

“The tragic news about fire at Saint Sava Church in New York City left my wife and I, as well as all of you, in shock and sorrow. That church has a special place in heart of my family. My father, King Peter II was very close to this church for many years. He often attended church with my mother and I, services and gatherings, and my family and I continue that tradition. Saint Sava Church was spiritual oasis and shelter for my family and I during our exile. We have been in contact with Father Djokan since the fire, and we will continue working to assist with the restoration of this Serbian sanctuary. With you and God’s help we hope to rebuild and refurnish our beautiful cathedral” – said Crown Prince Alexander.
